No. If hired, you will go through the Elk River Fire Academy. The Fire Academy is held on site at one of the stations 2-3 nights per week. During your time in the Fire Academy, you will receive all training and certifications required to be a firefighter.

All Elk River firefighters are paid-on-call, meaning that they are paid when they respond to calls for service, attend training, work at special events, etc. Paid-on-call firefighters are considered part-time employees of the City of Elk River.
