The Elk River City Council met for a regular meeting on Monday, May 16 and took the following actions:
- Hired Joe Boutin to fill the soon-to-be vacated Plumbing and Mechanical Inspector.
- Introduced the new Elk River Library Services Coordinator, Lori Lundstrom.
- Recognized Larry Collins as the Mayor’s Volunteer of the Month.
- Proclaimed August 6, 2022, as Bob Ruprecht Day in the City of Elk River. Bob retired on May 2 after 23 years of service to the city.
- Proclaimed June 12, 2022, as Denny Anderson Day in the City of Elk River. Denny will retire at the end of May after 37 years of service to the city.
Public hearings included:
- Unanimously approved a Conditional Use Permit (CUP) allowing auto repair for vehicles being prepped for sale at 10908 171st Avenue.
- Approved a platted exemption to adjust property lines between a buildable lot and an outlot so an ERX racetrack would be in compliance with their CUP.
- Approved an easement vacation at ERX to support the boundary line adjustment which brings their racetrack into compliance with their CUP.
- Considered and continued a CUP at ERX to expand their track construct a roof viewing area, and install changeable copy sign until July 5, 2022.
- Approved a resolution of denial for a proposed street vacation between properties at 18890 and 18920 Concord Street.
- Adopted an ordinance amendment clarifying how many chickens are allowed on parcels five acres or larger.
- Amended a city ordinance regarding the standards for the placement and duration of dumpsters, bag dumpsters and other rubbish containers.
General business and closed session discussions included:
- Approved a Street Light Policy and Utility Pole Agreement with Elk River Municipal Utilities.
- Discussed the city branding and council goals for updating the city brand. The council agreed to not make significant changes at this time.
- Appointed Reggie Vanlonden and Jon Cappaert to fill vacancies on the Energy City Commission.
Council meetings are held the first Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m., and the third Monday of each month at 6:00 p.m. at Elk River City Hall (13065 Orono Parkway). The agenda for a Monday meeting is typically available the Friday before at ElkRiverMN.gov/agendas, and as always meetings are broadcasted live on ErTV Spectrum 180 and on the city’s website, as well as after the fact within 24-48 hours.
