Spring has sprung which means Elk River Municipal Utilities (ERMU) has started flushing all of the city’s 1,200 fire hydrants starting Monday, May 9 through Friday, May 13 (weather depending).
Hydrant flushing not only serves as a preventative maintenance activity, ensuring all hydrants, valves, and water mains are in good working order. The high pressure release of water from a hydrant also helps clear any sediment or debris that has accumulated in the pipes over time, which improves water quality and system reliability.
