[ARCHIVED] Hydrant Flushing Underway Around Town

Hydrant FlushingSpring has sprung which means Elk River Municipal Utilities (ERMU) has started flushing all of the city’s 1,200 fire hydrants starting Monday, May 9 through Friday, May 13 (weather depending).

Hydrant flushing not only serves as a preventative maintenance activity, ensuring all hydrants, valves, and water mains are in good working order. The high pressure release of water from a hydrant also helps clear any sediment or debris that has accumulated in the pipes over time, which improves water quality and system reliability.

Click here to see when crews will be flushing hydrants in your area, and be aware it is not uncommon for some discoloration of water during flushing operations. If you experience this, run your cold water for 15-20 minutes and call ERMU at 763.-441-2020 if the problem persists.
