Redistricting involves redrawing boundaries of election districts. This occurs every 10 years after the federal census. The goal is to create equal population, reestablishing election precincts, and designating polling places.
Elk River will soon begin the process of redrawing its wards and precincts boundaries, and here are a few key dates you need to know:
- March 7 - An ordinance with proposed ward and precinct boundary changes will be introduced at a city council meeting; a public hearing will be held.
- March 29 - Deadline for the city to complete redistricting of wards and precincts.
- April 26 - Deadline for all other redistricting (counties, school districts, park districts, Soil and Water Conservation Districts).
Once the redistricting process is complete, the attached map will be updated accordingly, and residents who will experience a ward change will be notified. For more information on the upcoming 2022 elections, or the redistricting process, visit ElkRiverMN.gov/elections.
