City Council Meeting Recap Feb 7The Elk River City Council met on February 7, 2022. Some items of note from the meeting are as follows. On the consent agenda, they approved the following:

  • Accepted public ownership of Monroe Estates’ streets, utilities and right of way.
  • Approved a Temporary On Sale Liquor License for AEGIR Brewing Company’s St. Patrick’s Day event.
  • Approved a study for the expansion of urban services (water, sewer) to Northeast Elk River.
  • Approved the final plans for Highway 169 reconstruction.
  • Hired Wastewater Operator Tyler Hall

On the regular agenda council acted as follows:

  • Approved a study for the expansion of urban services (water, sewer) to Northeast Elk River.
  • Approved the final plans for Highway 169 reconstruction.
  • The Council received an update from Sherburne County Assessor Michelle Moen regarding the expected property valuation increases from the latest county appraisal.
  • Proclaimed June 1, 2022, as Philip Collins Day in the City of Elk River in recognition of  the firefighter’s retirement after over 33 years of service.
  • Mayor Dietz issued the Oath of Office to Firefighters Yess, O’Connell, Hooper and Hampton who have successfully completed their probationary period.
  • Introduced new employees Warren Ellington (Parks and Recreation) and Ryan Vadnais (Accountant) 
  • Hosted a public hearing to receive community feedback regarding a potential 1.7 mile trail along County Road 33. Following a discussion, the Council chose to not include the trail segment along the county road realignment.
  • Approved a resolution requesting the state legislature to preserve local zoning and housing control for the future development of the community.
  • Interviewed advisory commission candidates.
  • Received information regarding a proposed purchase of commercial/industrial city property.
  • Consented to combining two part-time secretary/receptionist positions to one full-time position.
  • Agreed to amend city ordinance to allow only an administrative review process for permitted uses in accordance with city ordinances.
  • Discussed city sponsorship of a Memorial Day parade. Mayor Dietz will bring further details to a future meeting for consideration.

Council meetings are held the first Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m., and the third Monday of each month at 6:00 p.m. at Elk River City Hall (13065 Orono Parkway). The agenda for a Monday meeting is typically available the Friday before at ElkRiverMN.gov/agendas, and as always meetings are broadcasted live on ErTV and on the city’s website, as well as after the fact within 24-48 hours.
