Over the next two weeks, Active Elk River project construction at Orono Park will be winding down for the season. Crews have been busy finishing out the mechanical building and installing pumps for the splash pad, in addition to pouring the concrete floor and installing doors on the new restrooms. One of the final construction milestones before crews wrap for the winter is the paving of the trail connections in and around the park.
Orono Park will remain closed until construction resumes in the spring of 2022, excluding the boat launch area. Please keep in mind, the park is still closed for construction with access to the playground and dog park only available by parking on Gary Street. Once the final concrete panels cure on the skateboard feature, it may be used at your own risk, however, please respect the areas around the feature including the dirt areas until the sod is established. Disturbing those areas may result in a complete closure of the skateboard feature.
Next spring, crews will complete the pickleball and volleyball courts, ADA accessible beach access, and finalize punch list items for the skateboard park before officially opening to the public.
