Great River Energy has been in the midst of decommissioning and demolishing the Elk River Energy Recovery Station since 2019, and starting Wednesday, August 11 that work will move south of Hwy 10. Residents can expect to see crews along the Mississippi River sealing and dewatering pipes previously used in GRE’s plant operations.
This area pictured, located immediately west of the Babcock Memorial Rest Area, has become a popular spot for fishing. The gravel parking area served as an access point to maintain the pipes will be removed, the headwall will be cut down and vegetation will be reestablished.
Please use caution as crews and machinery will be present while this work is completed.
