The city is thrilled to welcome Brent O’Neil as Elk River’s new Economic Development Director.
Brent completed his undergraduate studies at of Saint Cloud State University (go Huskies!) in Community Development, and recently completed his graduate degree program in Regional Studies at Minnesota State University Mankato.
Brent’s career started in transportation planning in South Central Minnesota, with the bulk of his experience in Sioux Falls, South Dakota where he worked in the city’s planning office before moving to economic development. In his eight years there, Brent facilitated numerous downtown development and redevelopment projects, and has experience in industrial recruitment, land sales and incentive programs.
When asked what excites him about the opportunities here in Elk River, he said: “Elk River has earned a reputation for being among the leaders in economic development in the region, especially your proactive approach to promoting economic activity and supporting community businesses. I appreciate the growth occurring in the city and am looking forward to joining the team in pursuing the best for the community and to help continue the track record of success.” Brent also noted that he’s excited to work through the opportunities 169 Redefine will bring before, during and after construction.
Brent’s family is currently living in Mankato, but plan to join him in Elk River later this summer. Brent and his wife have two children, with the third expected any day now. The O’Neil’s love swimming, camping, hiking, traveling and Brent is a huge fan of the Vikings and Twins.
