[ARCHIVED] Power/Utilities Scam Calls

Elk River Utilities staff were informed of a scam by one of their customers. The customer received a call from a 218 area code stating that they were going to be shutting off the electric at a certain time today. They had the customer's address and phone number, but not the account number. The customer began questioning the call and asked for a return number so she could call them back and verify. They provided her with a 1-800 number. She called our office instead. We imagine the scammer would have asked for payment and/or banking information if the call would have continued.
Please beware of this type of scam. If you are ever in doubt of a call you've received, please hang up and call our office at 763.441.2020
