In our current world of uncertainty, many people are seeking a way to make a difference and serve the community they call home. The Elk River Fire Department has an opportunity for interested residents to do just that. ERFD is currently accepting applications for dedicated men and women to serve with pride, honor, and distinction as an on-call firefighter.
As an on-call firefighter you’re responsible for fire suppression, rescue, medical and other emergency care. Elk River has two strategically placed fire stations (Station #1, 415 Jackson Ave. and Station #2, 13073 Orono Pkwy) with Station #3 scheduled tentatively for 2021. To help ensure an adequate response time, every Elk River on-call firefighter must live within eight (8) minutes of an Elk River fire station.
Qualified applicants must be 18 years or older, live within the required area of a fire station, have a valid Class D Minnesota driver’s license, and can pass the required pre-employment screening including a physical examination. Once selected for a position, new firefighters must complete approximately 200 hours of required training during their initial probationary period. This training includes tactics on fire suppression, search and rescue, emergency medicine, hazardous materials, and a multitude of other topics.
