The City of Elk River is accepting applications for on-call firefighters through Wednesday, November 27, 2013. Applications are available online at www.ElkRiverMN.gov or can be picked-up at the Elk River City Hall at 13065 Orono Parkway.
“Since 1881, the Elk River Fire Department has proudly served the community as a full-service emergency response and public safety agency,” says Fire Chief T. John Cunningham. “We are looking for applicants that will serve with pride, honor, and distinction, excited to carry forward the tradition of excellence that this department is known for.”
The department relies on a contingent of on-call firefighters that, when an emergency occurs, are paged to respond to their assigned station, often from home or work. “On-call firefighters are the heart of the organization,” says Cunningham. “It is truly a tradition of neighbors helping neighbors.
On-call firefighters are paid an hourly wage and receive an annual pension contribution of $5,091 which is fully vested after 20 years of service. No prior training or experience is necessary. The department provides all safety and firefighting gear and pays for all required training.
Two candidate information seminars have been scheduled to provide interested applicants with the opportunity to learn more about the department and to ask questions. The sessions will be held at fire station #2, 13073 Orono Parkway:
• Wednesday, November 20, 2013, at 6:30 p.m.
• Saturday, November 23, 2013, at 9:00 a.m.
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age, have a valid driver’s license and live within 8 minutes of an Elk River fire station.
