The United States Census counts every person living in the United States and five U.S. territories every 10 years. The census provides critical data that lawmakers, business owners, teachers, and many others use to provide daily services, products, and support for you and your community. Every year, billions of dollars in federal funding go to hospitals, fire departments, schools, roads, and other resources based on census data. 2020 marks the 24th time the country has counted its population since 1790, and we want to make sure Elk River is doing its part by responding to the short questionnaire if not done already.
As of Friday, April 10, Elk River’s response rate sits at 65.1% - above the statewide rate of 56.2%. However, if we look at a few of our neighbors like Rogers (70.6%) and Ramsey (66.9%) we have some catching up to do! It has never been easier to respond to the census, whether it’s online at 2020census.gov over the phone, or by mail - all without having to meet with a census staff member!
