The first of 36 light poles began going up at the Youth Athletic Complex on February 24, as part of the Active Elk River project. Each pole is anywhere from 60 to 80 feet tall and is equipped with six fixtures, which will illuminate four softball fields and two baseball fields when it’s all said and done! The next round of Active Elk River enhancements to YAC will begin later this spring, which includes the installation of a new playground, followed by modern restrooms and concessions.
Concurrent with the Active Elk River improvements, the eight dugouts on the softball fields will be replaced as planned with funding from the city’s Park Improvement Fund. These dugouts have deteriorated from the effects of seasonal elements, have exceeded their expected lifespan and were previously scheduled for replacement.
