We appreciate your patience as Public Works crews continue to clear the 25 miles of city-maintained sidewalks following the recent snowfall. The City of Elk River has one sidewalk snow removal machine, which went out of service the day before Thanksgiving. After awaiting replacement parts from outside vendors, fleet mechanics are confident the sidewalk snow removal machine will be operational soon.In the meantime, Public Works staff members have been utilizing other machines like this John Deere mower with a snow blower attachment (pictured) in an effort to get sidewalks cleared. Please keep in mind, while this machine can serve as a temporary clearing option until the other machine is fixed, it isn’t meant for sidewalk snow removal, therefore operates at a much slower pace in that role.
With all snow removal equipment functioning as it should, the city strives to have all sidewalks cleared of snow 48 hours following the completion of a Snow Event, in accordance with the National Weather Service. Residents can expect to continue to see plows out every afternoon this week in an attempt to take advantage of the warmer temperatures and scrape off any leftover snow/ice pack.
