Since mid-summer we’ve been providing updates on the improvements to Lion John Weicht Park and construction of the new multipurpose facility, two of several projects that make up the Active Elk River plan. This week, the first phase of another Active Elk River project at the Youth Athletic Complex (YAC) kicked off.
On Wednesday, October 23, 36 light poles, 360 light fixtures, two miles of electric cable to be buried, two new transformers and four electrical control panels were delivered to YAC. Elk River Municipal Utilities and city Park Maintenance staff have marked all underground utilities and the vendor has staked pole locations. Installation of underground utilities is expected to begin next week, followed by installation of the poles and fixtures next. This project will light four softball fields and two baseball fields, and is expected to be completed by mid-December, weather depending.
Other improvements coming to YAC include a playground, modern restrooms and concessions. Construction on these upgrades will begin in spring 2020. Learn about all of the Active Elk River projects and stay informed on the progress of each project on the designated Active Elk River website.
