Calling all Minnesota students in grades fourth, fifth, and sixth – we’d love to hear what Elk River would be like if you were Mayor for the day! Cities provide a variety of services and programs that make our lives better, including police, fire, street maintenance, parks and recreation services, libraries, utilities, and so much more! The League of Minnesota Cities’ annual Mayor for a Day essay contest asks young people to explain how they’d enhance and improve these vital city services. Handwritten essays will be accepted through Monday, October 14. For full contest rules and to download an entry form, visit: www.lmc.org/mayorforaday.
Three winners will be selected to receive $100, and have their essays published in an upcoming edition of Minnesota Cities magazine. Last year, 450 students from around Minnesota submitted essays, of those six were selected for recognition, two of which were VandenBerge Middle School students pictured here (Avery Louder and Breanna Bode with Mayor Dietz).
