[ARCHIVED] Explore Elk River Parks this Summer
Summer is the perfect time to get outdoors and explore the many parks and natural areas Elk River has to offer. Recently, the city has been getting inquiries about camping in Elk River, specifically Camp Cozy Park, located at 18800 Waco Street. While there is no camping (this includes tent and RV) in any city park, here's a bit of background on how the city came to own Camp Cozy. The land where Camp Cozy Park is located was donated to the City of Elk River in 1996, and features 48-acres of native prairie areas and wooded walking trails, many of which are situated along banks of the Elk River. According to the Sherburne History Center, Camp Cozy received its name in the 1920’s as an overnight resort and campground where visitors floated the backwater canals of the Elk River in canoes before the economic downturn of the depression caused it to close.
