You may notice some action on the east side of Elk River City Hall if you’re in the area this week! Today (Monday, June 17) Blue Horizon Energy crews mobilized to begin construction on a 5 kW solar installation funded through a Minnesota Municipal Power Agency (MMPA) grant. Crews have been prepping the site and will lay the concrete pad and footings this afternoon. MMPA selected the City of Elk River as the recipient of the Hometown Solar Grant because of city hall’s location near the popular Orono Park and adjacent frequently-traveled walking/biking path.
Construction is expected to be completed this week, and the installation will serve as an educational asset to teach people how sunlight is converted into energy.
