This recent video from Kare 11 raises valid questions. Knowing what choices to make to be more environmentally conscious can be difficult, especially when it comes to items like plastic bags. Choosing a paper bag or even a reusable bag at the grocery store can be a great option but lots of resources still go into the production of those bags too.

So how can you really reduce your carbon footprint? Try reducing your food waste! Buy only what you’re going to eat, freeze food before it spoils and utilize the City of Elk River’s organics recycling program.

Elk River residents can sign up for this free program to collect organic recycling at home, then dispose of materials at one of our two locations at no cost.

When you sign up, you will receive a free supply of compostable bags. And now, while supplies last, the City of Elk River is giving away a free bin to new and existing customers.
