Mother Nature didn’t hinder hundreds of residents from kicking their spring cleaning efforts into high gear this past weekend, to recycle and dispose of unwanted household items for free or at a discounted rate at the city’s Spring Clean Up Day event. There were 354 vehicles that stopped by the Elk River Maintenance Facility with items for disposal or recycling, and 45 vehicles utilized the document shredding service. City staff members in charge of the event estimate the following totals were dropped off for recycling during the four hour clean up:
- 100+ appliances
- 130 television sets
- 150 electronics
- 175 furniture items
- 110 mattresses
- 200+ tires
- Significant amount of scrap metal (exact weight TBD)
