Is your child ready for more independence? The Elk River Police Department is offering safety classes to help prepare children ages nine through twelve, to be safe and responsible when home alone. Students will gain a better understanding of how to prevent problems, handle real-life situations, and remain safe. Topics will include home safety, first aid, fire escape, severe weather plans, internet and kitchen safety, and healthy eating. Instructors will highlight some fun activities to keep kids busy while home alone, along with basic phone skills including how to make an emergency call.
The fee of just $20 per student, which includes six hours of instruction, course materials and lunch. Three class options are offered in June (June 13, 18, and 25) so you can choose the day that works best for your child’s schedule. Classes are held at the Elk River Fire Station #2.
