[ARCHIVED] Snow Event in Effect Until Further Notice

Snow Event Graphic FINAL WEBThe City of Elk River has declared a Snow Event. This means winter parking restrictions are in place prohibiting overnight parking on all city streets between 2:00 and 6:00 a.m. If plow operators encounter vehicles parked on city streets between these hours during the Snow Event, Elk River Police will be dispatched to ticket and tow, per city ordinance. Designated overnight Snow Event parking is permitted along the north side of the King Avenue parking lot. Nightly parking restrictions will remain in effect until the Snow Event has been lifted by city staff.

Plows will be out clearing streets throughout the duration of the storm, however please note that roads will not be cleared curb-to-curb (as they typically are) in an effort to avoid sod damage to residential yards. Plow operators will leave snow 1-2 feet from the curb, while still providing safe and clear driving lanes for vehicles. Sidewalks and trails will not be cleared for the same reason - large equipment in narrow corridors where frost is no longer present can result in substantial sod damage.
