Following the closure of Great River Energy’s trash-to-energy facility, Elk River can no longer offer curbside organics recycling. However, organics recycling will still be available to residents free of charge, with a few minor changes to the program. Instead of a $2 monthly fee for the special blue bags which could be tossed into your regular trash can, the blue bags are provided free of charge to interested residents who are then responsible for dropping off the collected food waste, paper products and other organic recyclables to a designated site. Clearly labeled “Organics Recycling” dumpsters can be found in the parking lot of both City Hall (13065 Orono Parkway) and the Elk River Compost Site (19000 Proctor Road). The City Hall dumpster is available 24/7, while the Compost Site drop off is available anytime with a compost keycard. Both sites are monitored, so please drop off responsibly.
