On November 6, voters overwhelmingly decided to invest in city amenities that will benefit every generation. The Active Elk River plan passed with 6,830 votes of support and 3,702 opposed. Curious as to what happens next? City staff members are working with our local state representatives to draft the sales tax bill to introduce when the Legislature reconvenes on January 8, 2019. The bill will need approval in both the House and Senate Tax Committees before approval by both bodies and signed by the governor. When/if the bill is signed into law, the Minnesota Department of Revenue will notify local businesses of the change in sales tax. This legislative session is scheduled to close on May 20, 2019.
