Whether it’s sweepers or snowplows, Elk River’s Street Maintenance crews have roughly 160 miles of roadway to keep safe and clear for everyone on any given day. Help us ensure the timeliest and most efficient operations by keeping obstructions like portable basketball hoops and trash/recycling carts out of the street.
Trash/recycling carts belong behind the curb in your driveway or yard on your scheduled collection day. Fun fact - refuse trucks are equipped with long arms to grab the carts and empty them, so correctly placing your cart(s) out of the street won’t impact collection.
Not only is it an ordinance violation to leave items in the public right-of-way, but this forces sweeper/plow operators to maneuver around the obstruction resulting in incomplete clearing, while also increasing the risk of damage to city equipment as well as the item they’re trying to avoid. Roadway obstructions also put your friends, neighbors and other motorists at risk who may happen upon an unexpected item in the roadway, resulting in an accident or injury.
