Calling all Minnesota students in grades fourth, fifth, and sixth – we’d love to hear what Elk River would be like if you were Mayor for the day! Cities provide a variety of services and programs that make our lives better, including police, fire, street maintenance, parks and recreation services, libraries, utilities, and so much more! "Minnesota Cities" magazine wants to hear from area youth on how they would make one of these city services even better. Entries must be postmarked by October 12 and mailed to: League of Minnesota Cities ATTN: Mayor for a Day, 145 University Ave W, St. Paul, MN 55103. Three winners will be selected to receive $100, and have their essays published in an upcoming edition of "Minnesota Monthly" magazine.
If an Elk River student is chosen as a finalist, they’ll get the full “Mayor for the Day” treatment, including a tour of city facilities and recognition at an upcoming City Council meeting. For more information on the 2018 Mayor for a Day essay contest, please click here.
