Please be aware to take CAUTION at Lake Orono - Due to impaired water quality, there is a potential health risk if water is swallowed.
Lake Orono is one of the most tested lakes in the region. In fact, cities are not required to test for harmful bacteria on public beaches but the City of Elk River prides itself on taking public health as a serious concern and uses every caution when conditions require it. Due to the fact that Lake Orono is a reservoir (dammed river), the city has little control over the overall water quality due to upstream activities. The city tests for Fecal Coliform along the beach, twice weekly. High levels of fecal coliform can result in E-coli and that is why we post signs at the beach when levels are above State limits. Until levels return to normal, the beach will be posted.
The water will be retested on Monday, July 23, 2018.
