[ARCHIVED] Beat the Summer Heat

Hot graphic

Sherburne County MN is one of 33 counties under an excessive heat warning in effect from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. today. According to the US National Weather Service Twin Cities Minnesota, high temperatures in the mid to upper 90’s will combine with high humidity, resulting in dangerously high heat indexes from 100 to 110. Here are some tips to safely beat the summer heat:

•Drink plenty of fluids – avoid alcohol as it causes you to lose body fluid
•Wear loose fitting, lightweight clothing when outdoors
•Protect against sunburn – sunburn affects your body’s ability to cool itself
•Stay in the AC during the hottest parts of the day
•Save strenuous/physical outdoor activities for the early morning or evening
•Never leave anyone, or any pet in a closed, parked vehicle

Signs of heat exhaustion or heat stroke include headache, nausea/vomiting, and confusion. At the first sign of these symptoms move to a cool place, start drinking fluids immediately, and when in doubt call 9-1-1.
