Election season is upon us, and campaign signs are allowed to be displayed from June 29 to November 16. Candidates must adhere to state laws when placing signs, as must private property owners expressing support for candidates by displaying a campaign sign in their yard. Political signs of any size are permitted on private property anywhere in Elk River with permission from the property owner. Signs cannot be placed in the public right-of-way. Public right-of-way varies depending on the roadway, so it’s best to keep all signs at least 10-feet from the curb, shoulder, or edge of the roadway. Keep in mind this law applies to all roadways, including city, county, and state highways. Elk River Code Enforcement Officers will remove illegally placed signs displayed on city streets, which are then left in a bin outside of the Elk River Maintenance Facility, located at 19000 Procter Road NW. This bin is accessible to everyone so if your sign is a good one, it may not last long. For more information, please call 763.635.1067, or click here.
