Posted on: June 15, 2017[ARCHIVED] Elk River's Downtown Pop-up Bike Lane Event
Elk River is a growing city where residents frequently travel to destinations
downtown, to numerous city parks, to local schools, and to locations outside of the city limits on a daily basis.
Because of our population and travel patterns, the city’s Environmental Division is looking for insight on how to make Elk River streets more accessible for non-motorized methods of transportation. Our goal is to support travelers in cars, on foot, on bikes, and other methods of transportation throughout Elk River to ensure everyone has equal and safe access to the local businesses and amenities.
Pop-up bike lanes or temporary bike lanes are increasing in popularity across U.S. cities to demonstrate the possibility of providing busy streets with protected bike lanes. We are inviting our community to attend Elk River’s first ever pop-up bike lane event during an upcoming Farmers’ Market on June 15 from 2-6 p.m. The goal of this project is to show the community a potential enhancement for non-motorized transportation that maintains street safety, public space, and connectivity throughout the city. Thank you in advance for your participation.
