[ARCHIVED] New Elk River’s Recycle Coach™ App puts Recycling/Garbage Collection Information on Your Smartphone

Easy-to-find information when and where you want it!  If you are one of the growing numbers who have a smartphone or tablet, you can download Elk River’s new app that puts garbage, recycling, contact information details, and more at your fingertips.

“Elk River is pleased to announce the launch of a mobile and web app that contains all of the information you need to know about our residential garbage, recycling, and organics services, tailored specifically to your neighborhood,” said Amanda Bednar, Environmental Coordinator.

The new app developed by Recycle Coach™, provides residents with all of the information normally found on the Elk River Municipal Utilities (ERMU) website or their distributed collection schedule.  The convenient app saves time going on line or hunting for a misplaced schedule.

Special features include a search function to find how to dispose of out-of-the-ordinary items, tips for reducing and recycling waste, a link directly to ERMU allowing online bill payment, account changes, and staff contacts. The app also includes a Report-a-Problem function to report non-emergency issues like missed collections, illegal dumping, and overflowing garbage or recycling bins.  “The app can further utilize a smartphone’s GPS and camera to email problems directly to city staff,” Bednar said.  The app also includes a setting to provide regular reminders for any of the collection programs.

“This is a new way for us to connect with residents about our resource recovery and waste diversion programs.  We’ll be able to update the app’s information throughout the year so it will always be current.  Residents will never forget a collection day and that should lead to increased recycling rates. Everybody wins,” she said.

The Recycle Coach™ app is free to download and it is available from the iTunes Store and Google Play.
