The mission of the Parks and Recreation Commission is to be advocates for the citizens of Elk River in the stewardship of the city owned parks and trails. Their role is also to advise the City Council concerning the acquisition, management, and development of the city parks, trails, and recreational facilities.
The Parks and Recreation Commission reviews and makes recommendations on the overall planning, management, and administrative activities of park systems and recreation programming to the City Council. The Commission prepares and distributes information regarding the acquisition and development of park facilities and the development of recreation programs. The Commission also provides for the maintenance and improvement of parks and recreational facilities, including grounds and park buildings. The Parks and Recreation Commission meets on the second Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. Meetings are held at City Hall. The Commission consists of seven members serving a three year term of office. Members need not be a resident of Elk River.
