Orono Park Enhancements Underway

With the next round of Active Elk River enhancements underway at Orono Park, here is what you need to know:

  • Beach/Playground/Dog Park - The beach will not be open this summer. The playground will remain open until mid-summer, we’ll update residents when construction crews have a better idea of when they’ll need to close the play area. The dog park will remain open throughout the course of construction.
  • Boat Launch - The boat launch will be closed, excluding the Memorial Day and July Fourth holiday weekends. New Look Contracting hopes to be able to open the launch for additional weekend access, however that is determined week-by-week.
  • Parking Lot - The parking lot is closed throughout the duration of project. Those wanting to access the dog park, playground and/or the boat launch (during the select weekend openings) can do so by parking along Gary Street.

We’ll continue to bring you updates on the Orono Park upgrades, construction timelines, and other important information as details become available. Orono Park will soon be home to a splashpad, pickleball court, skateboard park, beach area accessibility improvements, and additional trail connections, as part of the Active Elk River plan. Visit for all the latest information.
