Citizen's Academy

The Elk River Police Department Citizen’s Academy is a program designed to help strengthen the partnership between public safety professionals and the community by sharing information and promoting a better understanding of public safety services. It is an eight-week program that meets one night a week for three hours. 

Some of the topics covered include:

  • Use of Force
  • Patrol Functions
  • K-9
  • SWAT
  • Firearms and Range Shooting
  • Drug Trends
  • Ride-A-Long
  • Investigative Functions & Evidence Processing/Crime Analysis
  • Crime Prevention/CSO/Reserves
  • Much more!

To participate in the Academy, preference will be given to those who work or live in Elk River. Applicants must be 21 years of age or older and pass a criminal background check. Applications will be available December 3, 2018, and are due by December 31, 2018, for the 2019 class.
