The MFMA was created by a group of Minnesota farmers' markets to present a unified voice in the growth and regulation of local farmers' markets. Pooling their resources, knowledge, and contacts allow for greater impact on local, state, and federal ordinances and regulations. The MFMA also works for the common good in terms of marketing, promotion, product labeling, self-regulation and standards, market liability insurance, public education as well as educational seminars for market vendors and management, and much more.
This program is a partnership between the Minnesota Department of Agriculture and the growers and processors who provide quality Minnesota Grown products. It was established in the 1980s to promote fruits and vegetables and has since become synonymous with fresh food and ornamental products of great quality and variety. It includes nearly 1,000 farmers who grow or raise a wide variety of products in addition to farmers' markets, Christmas tree farms, apple orchards, u-pick farms, crop mazes, and pumpkin patches.
