Budget Processes and Financial Reports
Annual Budget Process Schedule 

The following are key dates for the budget process:
  • Goal-setting session in spring
  • Staff budget preparation from May through June
  • Budget work sessions with the City Council are held from July through September
  • Adoption of preliminary budget and levy in September
  • Notify Sherburne County by September 30 of the City Council meeting for the city’s public presentation and comments meeting, which is typically held in early December of each year
  • Sherburne County sends out parcel specific notices (formerly the Truth-in-Taxation notice) between November 11 and November 25
  • Deadline to certify final tax levy to county is December 28

Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) 
The is a five-year projection of the capital replacement costs and additional capital needs. It does not give authority to spend, but assists with the preparation of the biennial budget by detailing upcoming capital expenditures by funding source.

Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) provides the city council, staff, residents, and other interested parties with detailed information on the city's financial status and practices.
